2. What is Istikhara Dua?

Istikhara (Arabic: استخارة) is a prayer that means “seeking goodness” from Allah. The act of performing Istikhara is about asking Allah to guide us in making the right decision—whether it’s in our personal, professional, or spiritual lives. It’s an expression of submission to Allah’s will, trusting that whatever He decrees will be for our ultimate benefit.

Dua Istikhara involves two elements: the Salat (prayer) and the Dua (supplication). After performing two units of prayer (Rak’ahs), the believer recites the Istikhara Dua, asking Allah for guidance in a particular matter.

Purpose:

Translation (in English):
“O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge and Your power through Your might, and I ask You from Your immense favor. You are capable and I am not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know this matter to be good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affairs, then ordain it for me, make it easy for me, and bless me in it. But if You know this matter to be harmful to me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is best wherever it may be and make me satisfied.”
